§ 2-119. Sick leave for all officers and employees.

  • (a)

    Employees hired prior to January 1, 1987, shall retain their sick leave previously accrued until January 1, 1987. Employees hired prior to January 1, 1987, with less than forty-five (45) days shall be entitled to continue to accrue said sick leave as provided for in subsection (c) herein. Employees as of December 31, 1987, who have between forty-five (45) and ninety (90) sick days shall have said sick leave frozen at the amount they then have. Said employees may utilize said sick leave thereafter, but once used, said sick leave may only be replenished up to forty-five (45) days as provided for in subsection (c) herein.

    (b)

    All employees listed above, except as hereinafter provided, shall be entitled to an extended sick and accident program, which program shall have a duration of seventeen (17) weeks and said employees shall thereafter be entitled to participate in the City's long-term disability program. Notwithstanding the above, employees who had, as of December 31, 1986, more than sixty-five (65) days as of said date shall have the right to continue to accrue up to ninety (90) days, but in the event that said employees elect to continue under the ninety-day program, such employees shall not be entitled to participate in the City's long-term disability program.

    (c)

    All employees employed as of January 1, 1987, or thereafter, will accrue sick leave at the rate of eight (8) days per year or two-thirds ( 2/3 ) days per month with a maximum allowable accrual of forty-five (45) sick days, except that the maximum allowable accrual shall be ninety (90) days for those employees who do not elect to be covered by the City's long-term disability program.

    (d)

    This section shall not apply to sworn police officers or firefighters.
